A. Comprehensive Travel Consultation

Appropriate for any conscientious traveler, especially when traveling to developing countries in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. This option is highly recommended for long term travelers (more than two weeks) especially those who will reside or work abroad. It includes, but is not limited to, the following:
  • All the items mentioned under option B in a more comprehensive fashion.
  • Medical profile of the country of destination will be discussed and printed information regarding the prevention of infectious and tropical diseases (such as typhoid fever, tetanus, diphtheria, polio, measles, rabies, viral hepatitis, meningitis, Japanese encephalitis, and parasitic diseases) will be provided.
  • List of English speaking physicians and nearest clinics and hospitals win be provided.
  • Special instructions for pregnant travelers, traveling children, travelers with diabetes, or heart and lung disease.
  • Full discussion of appropriate topics is enumerated under Printed Material.

B, Intermediate Travel Consultation

This option is the option most commonly used by international travelers.
It includes:
  • Review of your previous immunizations and travel itinerary.
  • Review of your medical history.
  • Full discussion of the legally required immunizations (necessary for entry) and medically recommended immunizations (for your protection).
  • Administration of vaccines after full discussion of possible side effects and drug interactions, and recording them on the International Certificate of Vaccinations.
  • Information regarding food and beverage safety and prevention and treatment of travelers' diarrhea will be given, with the appropriate drug prescriptions.
  • Prevention of insect-borne diseases with full instructions regarding the personal protection measures, appropriate insect repellent for the skin and insecticide spray for the clothing and for the sleeping quarters).
  • Full malaria consultation as described under option E.
  • Travelers Medical Kit will be discussed and appropriate medications prescribed.
  • Special instruction regarding prevention and treatment of altitude sickness will be given with appropriate medications.
  • Information regarding prevention and treatment of motion sickness and jetlag will be given. Special Instructions for travelers with kids, travelers with diabetes, pregnant travelers, and travelers with heart and lung disease.
  • Health hints for women traveling abroad (printed material).
  • International travelers final checklist.

C. Travel Consultation Regarding Immunizations ONLY

  • Preview of your previous immunizations and travel itinerary.

  • Full discussion of legally required immunizations (necessary for entry) and medically recommended immunizations (for your protection).

This assumes that the traveler has obtained information from other health providers or organizations and is not interested in any type of travel consultation, Therefore, no further information or advice will he given by Dr. Bahar .

E. Malaria Consultation ONLY

This includes:
  • Review of your itinerary and medical history (see International Travel Medical questionnaire available at INTERNATIONAL TRAVELERS' CLINIC
  • General information regarding the type of malaria in the travel destination, its cause, symptoms and preventive measures will be given in detail (accompanied by printed material).
  • Instructions regarding personal protection measures, including the appropriate mosquito repellent for the skin and insecticide spray for the clothing and for the sleeping quarters, and if necessary mosquito nets. Printed material and name of the recommended products will be given.
  • Prescription will be given for the appropriate type of drug, exact dose, duration of treatment, possible side effects and drug interactions. (printed form)

Please note that prescribing of the anti-malaria medication without the full discussion of the above items is not standard of care and is considered malpractice.

F. Personal Protection Measures and Insect Protection ONLY

Many serious diseases in the tropics and elsewhere are spread by insects. For prevention of these diseases such as yellow fever, dengue fever,Japanee encephalitis, malaria, West Nile disease, sleeping sickness, leishmania etc. personal protection measures against insects are of paramount importance and the first line of defense, as vaccination alone is not always 100% effective.

This option includes oral discussions and printed materials regarding:

  • General information regarding insect protection and list of diseases they transmit.
  • Protective clothing and tips to avoid insect bites.
  • Sleeping quarters and sprays for indoor use
  • Insect repellents for the skin with recommended prodcuts for children and adults.
  • Insecticide spray for the clothing with recommended products for children and adults.

G. Food and beverage safety, prevention and treatment of traveler's diarrhea ONLY

  • Food and beverage safety
  • Appropriate water disinfectants and water filters
  • Prevention of dehydration and traveller's diarrhea.
  • Electrolytes preparations and drug prescriptions for prevention and/or treatment traveler's diarrhea in children and adults.
  • Post travel recommendations and appropriate tests.
