s a bacterial infection contracted by consuming contaminated food or fluids. It is characterized by fever, headache, weakness, sore throat, cough and diarrhea. If untreated, severe shock, lethargy and change in level of consciousness, may ensue. A few patients become chronic carriers of the typhoid bacteria. Vaccination is available by injection (2 different types) or in oral form. It is recommended for all travelers, going to endemic areas or areas with a recent typhoid outbreak.
