Is a childhood disease but it can occur in adults. Its medical name is "epidemic parotitis" which is a viral infection. The symptoms include fever, swollen, painful salivary glands, causing the cheeks to puff out. In about a quarter of men who contract mumps, inflammation of the testicles develops, which occasionally causes sterility. The vaccine is usually given combined with the measles and rubella vaccines (M.M.R).
