When travelers will be departing immediately for a hepatitis-A enemic area, immune globulin can be administered in conjunction with hepatitis A vaccine. The theory is to give immediate protection during the 4 week vulnerable period while vaccine-derived immunity lacks. As hepatitis A vaccines are not FDA approved for children less than 2 years of age, only Immune globulin is currently indicated for protecting this group.
