Is a bacteria which causes infection primarily in children less than 5 years old : Meningitis (inflammation of the membranes around the brain), epigiottitis, sinusitis, otitis media (middle ear infection) bronchitis or pneumonia. In adults, pneumonia is one of the more common infections caused by Hib. Five Hib conjugate vaccines are licensed in the U.S. As a result of the success of Hib conjugate vaccines in eliminating invasive Hib disease, the US Public Health Service has targeted Hib disease in children younger than 5 years for elimination in this country.
