All travelers to areas  of the world where malaria is present are advised to use the appropriate drug regimen and personal protective measures to prevent malaria. Malaria is transmitted by the bite of the female Anopheles mosquito which feeds from dusk to dawn. One can also contract malaria through blood transfusions or the use of contaminated needles and syringes. Symptoms of malaria include fever, chills, headaches, muscle aches and malaise. Early stages of malaria may resemble the onset of the flu. Malaria can be treated effectively in its early stages, but delaying treatment can have serious consequences. The Drug prophylaxis should be started before the trip and should be continued during the stay and for sometime after departure from malarial zones. Current information regarding the most effective repellents and insecticides as well as the appropriate preventive drugs may be obtained from our office.
